Did you know that cockroaches do not enjoy bugging you? Roaches are as terrified of you as you are of them. For this reason, they spend the majority of their time hiding, at least during the day. This, however, does not make roaches any more enjoyable to live with. Even if you aren’t seeing them, they can still cause massive problems for you and your family.

What are brown-banded cockroaches?

Here in Texas, we have one species of cockroach that is particularly troublesome, the brown-banded cockroach. Distinguished by the brown band around their abdomen, brown-banded cockroaches are one of the most resilient and invasive species of cockroach in Texas. Not only do they need less water to survive than other roaches, but they are also built to survive in extreme temperatures, something that is common here in Texas.

Are cockroaches dangerous?

In addition to being resilient to our Texas weather, brown-banded cockroaches are extremely dangerous. They do not bite or sting as you may think, but rather carry and spread bacteria, 33 different kinds to be precise. They spread these bacteria when they walk over countertops, utensils, and left-out food.

Cockroaches are also known to cause asthma attacks and allergic reactions in certain individuals. This is caused by the particulate skin cells cockroaches shed that are released into the air and breathed in.

When are cockroaches most active?

Cockroaches are nocturnal creatures. This is convenient for them because night time is when people usually sleep. This allows roaches to crawl around homes and scavenge food without having to worry about scary humans. If you are wondering if your home has roaches, and are brave enough, consider turning on a light in your kitchen after dark. You may see some roaches run for cover.

What do cockroaches eat?

When it comes to food, cockroaches are not picky. They will eat practically anything that is organic. This includes sweets, meats, and starches, three things that are in almost all of our food. They are also known to consume hair, books, and decaying matter. Whether it’s in your trash, or on your counter, cockroaches don’t care, if it’s in their diet, they will eat it.

Roaches are a year-round problem here in Texas. they require a year-round solution. Here at Innovative Pest Control, we have just that.
