When you find a spider in your sink or a web along your window sill, does your heart rate pick up? Do you get annoyed? Disgusted? Spiders can trigger many emotions, and the brown recluse spider is no exception. These spiders have legs three times the length of their body! Those long, skinny legs give them the ability to move quickly. If you find a brown recluse in your home you probably won’t see it for long. They also leave behind a painful bite if they feel threatened. This bite may require medical attention.

What are brown recluse spiders?

The easiest way to identify a brown recluse is by the violin-shaped marking on its back. It will be a darker brown than the rest of its body. If you get close enough (if you dare) you’ll also notice these spiders have six eyes, whereas most spiders have eight.

Brown recluse spiders are usually most active March through October. This means the active season for spiders is now. We’ll continue to notice an increase in home spider invasions. This is most likely because of the increase in food sources around your property. These spiders are carnivores, meaning they’ll feed on insects and other spiders. While some spiders use their webs to catch insects as they fly by, brown recluse spiders hunt down their meals and bring them back to their webs. Crickets, cockroaches, ants, and other pests are all part of their diet. To sum up, having spiders in your home is an indicator that other pests are there as well.

Spider Control Services For Your East Texas Home

Innovative Pest Control is here to help you keep a spider-free home this summer. In order to do this, there are some prevention steps homeowners can apply. The first and universal to all pests (except bed bugs) is to seal cracks and openings that allow them into your home. Inspect the outside of your home for entry-points and seal them off. The next tip is to get out the vacuum. Vacuum frequently, especially in corners and in dark areas of your home. You can even vacuum up spiders and webs when you find them. It’s also important to prevent insects (i.e. spider food sources) from entering your home by covering trash and keeping food in sealed containers. Food and water are what attracts many insects.

If you’re dealing with spiders or other pests in your home, Innovative can provide a solution. Our goal is to not only eliminate spiders from your home, but their food sources as well. Together, we will create the best treatment plan for your home. Don’t let pests ruin your summer. Learn more about our spider control and reach out to us today!
